Kitchen Table Discussions (Mini Series) - Dating in 2026

Okay, let's be real, raw, honest, and transparent - the dating scene in 2026 is absolute TRASH. But Delilah, aren't you married? Yes I am, and praise God for that. Not only because it is an amazing marriage, but also because you could not pay me enough to date in this day and age. My peace cannot be bought.

Now just because I am married does not mean that I don't still have eyes and opinions on how the dating scene looks right now. I have friends who are single and trying to mingle and each interaction ends in a dumpster fire because the AUDACITY of these boys blows my mind. Even Justin finds himself at a loss for words on some of the things that get asked, assumed, or said.

If you want to hang out, that is cool. It is fine and a good idea to meet in person and get a feel for each other without being behind a screen. HOWEVER... what is not a good idea is when you are asking someone what they want to do, and they respond with "I am down for anything", do not let your pea sized brain assume that this person is including sleeping with you as part of the "down for anything" statement. Because I can promise that at least 70% of these women are meaning they would be cool with grabbing a bite to eat, meeting for coffee, going for a walk, sitting in a park and talking. All activities that include having your clothes on and being things that they would be okay doing if Jesus were to walk around the corner and see. Because news flash, Jesus is already listening to everything you are saying and thinking, so let's not put ourselves in a compromising situation. Deal?

If you are choosing to snapchat (I do not believe that snapchat needs to be an app that exists in my opinion) and you want to make a sexual comment about this girl's hair style, let's think twice about it. And then go ahead and think about it a third time before you choose to hit send. If this woman has made it clear that she is a follower of Christ, her body belongs to the Lord and you should respect it as such. I do not condone self gratification in sinful ways, but if you have to be gross, do not be bringing one of the Lord's daughters into your mess. That is very unbecoming and shows just how self you are.

If you are messaging with someone and you make plans for a date and talk this date up and how much you are looking forward to it, either follow through or be honest if your interest has changed. Do not ghost this woman. Not only is it disrespectful, it could also lead her to believe that you died on your way home from work and now she's going to be worrying about some stranger for days because she is none the wiser. Now if you do choose to ghost, let's not pop back in her DM's with a "heyyyy" like everything is all fine and dandy. It isn't. You will find yourself in the position where you owe her an explanation as to why you couldn't be grown enough to tell her that you have cold feet and don't think you want to actually go on this date and need more time or you connected better with someone else and want to pursue other things. It really is not difficult to just be respectful to someone whose time you are choosing to take up. Were you never taught about the Golden Rule??? Sheesh.

If you are texting someone and things are going really well, even on day three, do not ruin it by asking "so what are your thoughts on sex before marriage". If you know that the woman you are trying to get to know is a follower of Christ, the answer ought to be clear as day that sex before marriage is OFF THE TABLE. For one, you do not know her well enough to be asking intimate questions like that. For two, sex should not be a topic of conversation before you have even had your first date. And for three, despite what the world tells us, sex outside of marriage is wrong. It is a gift meant to be shared between those who are in a covenant marriage because there is nothing more vulnerable than sex. You are literally laid bare before one another. You should not be expecting anything of the sort from someone you are not tied to, and especially someone who doesn't even know you. That is actually insane.

Now I know this has been a bit of a rant, but can you blame me? I worry for the little girls in my life who will one day be of dating age. There is no shame with some of these boys and their dirty minds telling them that women owe them anything they want. And I know that not all boys are like this, some are actually respectable men, but so far we have not come across any that have the right idea in mind when it comes to dating. And then they get offended when told that the interest is no longer there, and they want to make the woman the bad guy and tell her she is being immature. When in reality, it is actually very mature to have boundaries and not back down when those boundaries are tested. Knowing one's worth is extremely mature and something that one should never be made to feel ashamed for. Choosing not to entertain something that most likely will not benefit either party, it a mature and respectful response. Let's stop taking rejection so hard that we lash out and become bitter and rude, it's not a good look.

And please, if you are a single male reading this post, if the shoe fits...lace it up and wear it, as there is clearly room for improvement. But if you know for a fact that none of this applies to you, thank you for being a respectful human being, and be sure to keep up the good work. Because at the end of the day, the woman you are courting is someone's daughter, sister, mother, niece, and she deserves to be treated like a lady. And I know there are girls out there who can and do belittle men, so this can also be directed at those girls, because this is coming for someone who knows it goes both ways.

Dating should be done with the end goal being to marry that person. You wouldn't want to marry someone that makes you uncomfortable, question your worth, feel gaslit because you view something differently than they do, or has you making choices that do not align with your boundaries. Date smart, my friends, and date with the proper intentions. The world is bad enough without the added stress of people who cannot control their selfish desires.
